Dis orienta-Ted

This was just SO much fun to create :)

I wanted it to be colourful and to have a mischievious childlike fun element to it... something that would catch the eye with its quirkiness and encourage the viewer to stop and think... to not accept anything as given but to question everything just as Ted is doing.

  1. Ona, I've been watching this each step of the way that you've posted and I am quite captivated by it.

I don't know about the rules of shows, but I love the unusual matting treatment.

  2. Thank you Vicki. I'm glad you find it interesting and that you love the matting idea too. I will definitley display it like this locally. I'm not sure about larger exhibitions though :)

  3. Hi Ona, I find your compositions compelling! I wonder about the tilting. My first thought was wondering how it would look if the framer tilted the mat only, so the frame would be "normal". Don't know if that would work. Otherwise, perhaps an inquiry with an exhibition chair might get it hung as you desire. It's pretty powerful as it is with a landscape orientation too!

  4. That was what I was thinking of doing Peggy, traditional frame but just wonky matting. It does work in landscape though and this would be a safer option

  5. I love this, Ona. I really prefer the tilted mat. I will say looking at is quite disorienting but that's the whole idea, right?

  10. Ona this work is wonderful it's inventive, it's imagineative, it's great.
By all means Mat the art any way you like it.
I think. Using a mat at an angle adds.to the.overall design . It should not be a show problem if the inside window is at an angle as long as the outside measurements are rectangular . Good luck I hope.you win an award for.this one! Elise

  11. Definitely hang it tilted and without a white mat. :-) No harm in asking re larger exhibitions.

  12. However you frame it, it will be awesome. I think it would make a great puzzle. Have you ever approached a puzzle manufacturer?

  15. Your blog has left me breathless! Your work is fantastic! I've become a follower, I hope you don't mind.

This picture would work even if you hung it upside down. Conventional frame and tilted mat would certainly set the mood for studying the detail.

I love the spinning wheel picture, with the mother-of-all holding the two maidens and spinner. I've made a spinning wheel and recently posted photographs
